Engage VR no longer works with Chromebook
STEM teachers, tech centers, librarians across the United States are exploring ways to use virtual reality in the classroom. The idea of a VR learning experience is exciting for teachers and students. Some schools are fotunate enough to have VR headsets available for students to use. Most schools, however, rely on VR experiences that can run on a Chromebook.
In late 2024, ENGAGE XR (formerly ENGAGE VR) officially announced that support for Chromebooks would be withdrawn by the end of 2024. This decision follows ENGAGE’s longstanding focus on PC, Mac, and VR headset platforms. As of early 2025, Chromebook compatibility remains fully unsupported—even though earlier device specifications once provided partial guidance.
For schools relying heavily on Chromebooks—still among the most widely distributed learning devices in K‑12 education—this leaves a critical gap: immersive, VR-enhanced learning experiences delivered via ENGAGE are no longer accessible to a significant segment of students.
